London: A 15-year-old boy managed to dupe Apple by creating an iPhone application that connects to the Internet for free but it is no longer available.
To access the web through the iPhone costs around 13 pounds a month.
Nick Lee designed a application which at first glance appears to allow users to change the colour of their screen. It was charged at less than a dollar to upload from the Apple iTunes online music store.
However, the application contains a hidden code that allows people to use their iPhone as a modem and access the Internet without paying, the Telegraph reported.
The application was removed as soon as news of its true nature appeared online. Those who downloaded it, however, can keep enjoying its benefits.
"I'm going to use this little gem of an application to my heart's content. I'm typing on it now, and I'm going to see just how much data I can use all afternoon. I was able to get download speeds of roughly 2.5 Mbps," an online user who downloaded the application before it was removed said.

Yahoo hosted 24-hour 'hacking' event in India's tech hub
Bangalore: Global search engine Yahoo hosted a non-stop 24-hour "hacking" event on Saturday noon in this tech hub where about 300 whiz-kids used its web tools and services to develop new applications, a company official said Friday.
"About 300 developers across India participated in the 24-hour hacking event, which involved using our web tools, services and application programming interfaces (APIs) to innovate new solutions for our global netizens," Yahoo India Research and Development Head Shouvick Mukherjee said.
Being held for the third consecutive year, the "Open Hack Day" aimed at nurturing the open innovation ecosystem in India and drive domain expertise in the internet space.
"Open Hack Days enable talented developers to create better, more relevant and more social experiences on our network. The spirit is to leverage our open APIs and developer tools to create newer applications," Mukherjee said.

Mobiles have 18 times more bacteria than toilet handle
London: The average mobile phone carries 18 times more potentially harmful germs than a flush handle in a men's toilet, tests have revealed.
One of the phones in the test had such high levels of bacteria that it could have given its owner a serious stomach upset.
The findings from a sample of dozens of phones by Which? magazine suggest 14.7 million of the 63 million mobiles in use in Britain today could be potential health hazards, reports the Daily Mail.
Hygiene expert Jim Francis, who carried out the tests, said: "The levels of potentially harmful bacteria on one mobile were off the scale. That phone needs sterilising."
The most unhygienic phone also had 39 times the safe level of enterobacteria, a group of bacteria that live in the lower intestines of humans and animals and include bugs such as salmonella.
It boasted 170 times the acceptable level of faecal coliforms, which are associated with human waste.
Other bacteria including food poisoning bugs e.coli and staphylococcus aureus were found on the phones but at safe levels.
Which? researcher Ceri Stanaway said: "The bugs can end up on your hands which is a breeding ground and be passed back to your phone. They can be transferred back and forth and eventually you could catch something nasty.
"What this shows is how easy it is to come into contact with bacteria. People see toilet flushes as being something dirty to touch but they have less bacteria than phones.
"People need to be mindful of that by observing good hygiene themselves and among others who they pass the phone to when looking at photos, for example."

Bangalore: With an aim of every Indian student with a laptop, Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry's effort to bring out $30 laptops has invited lot of criticisms. Whereas some of the western media hesitant to call it as a laptop, "it doesn't appear to be a laptop at all, instead, it seems to be a small (10 inches by 5 inches) "storage device" with a bunch of wires emerging from it," reports Gizmodo. Whether it is $10, $20 or $30 all of them are doubtful about the success.
Until now the China-based electronic equipment manufacturer MenQ hold the credit of world's cheapest laptop EasyPC E790. India is trying to break the credits by bringing out $30 laptop with key features like touch screen display, Built in keyboard, 2GB RAM, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB support, runs on solar power besides conventional power sources, supports multimedia, web conferencing and Linux OS.
In 2009, MenQ launched $80 laptop successfully. But it took one year for India to unveil a prototype of $30 laptop. The availability and distribution is the major concern of the hour. In 2008, the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras worked on the the development of the low-cost laptop.

At 14, Delhi boy joins IIT Kanpur
Kanpur: Delhi boy Sahal Kaushik, who hogged the limelight when he cracked the IIT-JEE exam at the age of 14 this year, has taken admission in an undergraduate course at the IIT Kanpur.
Kaushik, who had secured the 33rd rank at all-India level in the IIT-JEE exam this year, has opted for the five-year integrated MSc (Physics) course, said Sanjeev Kasalkar, Registrar of IIT Kanpur.
"There is no age limit for admission into undergraduate courses. A student has to be intermediate pass only," he said, adding Sahal is the youngest student to take admission in the IIT this year.
He completed his class 12 from Vandana International School in Dwarka, Delhi, securing 78 percent marks.

Difference beween E and G network
Friends there are many people wondering what does that E or G means which is shown in gprs enabled mobile.
Yesterday itself a guy who was travellin with me in bus was asking me what does that mean and is it a kind of service which is chargeable. So here i would tell what that means.
Its just the basic info for the newbies. Its not only E and G but there are also 3G n H as well.
Here what they stand for
G - gprs
E - edge
3G - UMTS
H - HSDPA (3.5G)
First one is the weakest and last one is obviously the strongest. Whenever ur in an area of strong signal strenght u'll get the better network for ur mobile. And whenever the stronger network is unavailable it switches to the weaker signal.
In 3G/H u can make voice calls n data transfer simultaneously which is not the case in E n G.

HTC’s First Windows Phone 7 Smartphone Revealed
HTC’s Revealed the very first Windows Phone 7 smartphone. With Windows Phone 7 on the horizon, we’re starting to see the first future handsets for that operating system leak through the usual channels, and first on the starting block is the usual suspect: HTC, who appears to be eager to capitalize upon the patent deal it signed with Microsoft back in April.
The unnamed device’s specs include an 8 megapixel camera, a 3.7-inch super LCD display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. Three buttons line the bottom of the display, and the back of the camera features an LED flash. According to Engadget and their source, the phone’s hardware ready: HTC’s just waiting for Microsoft to fire the starting pistol and allow them to start selling it.Beyond the mere details of the hardware, Engadget’s source is also claiming that HTC is in talks with two US carriers. Verizon’s the first one, which makes sense: they are still struggling to find their own iPhone-like showcase handset. If you’re not on Verizon, though, and want a Windows Phone 7 handset, don’t fret: HTC will doubtlessly be as promiscuous about their Windows Phone 7 smartphones as they have with their Android ones. There’ll be plenty of HTC Windows Phone 7 to go around.

Apple Top in World in Software Insecurity
Apple is the most security vulnerabilities in its software. Its a report by security company Secunia. Apple has displaced Oracle from 1st place. Apple had more reported flaws than any other vendor in first half of 2010. Microsoft retains its third-place spot. Secunia has tracked security vulnerabilities and issues advisories since 2002, producing periodic reports on the state of software.In term of top ten vendors account for some 38% of all flaws reported. As the report says that Apple is most insecure in its software, it does not necessarily mean that Apple's software is the most insecure in practice. The report takes no consideration of the severity of the flaws, it points at a growing trend in the world of security flaws: the role of third-party software.
Generally Apple's flaws are not in its operating system, Mac OS X, but rather in software like Safari, QuickTime, and iTunes. Vendors like Adobe (with Flash and Adobe Reader) and Oracle (with Java) are similarly responsible for many of the flaws being reported.
This report includes cumulative figures for the number of vulnerabilities found on a Windows PC with the 50 most widely-used programs. Five years ago, there were more first-party flaws (in Windows and Microsoft's other software) than third-party. Since about 2007, the balance shifted towards third-party programs. This year, third-party flaws are predicted to outnumber first-party flaws by two-to-one. Secunia also makes a case that effectively updating this third-party software is much harder to do.
Whereas Microsoft's Windows Update and Microsoft Update systems will provide protection for around 35% of reported vulnerabilities, patching the remainder requires the use of 13 or more updating systems. Some vendors like Apple, Mozilla, and Google, for example do have decent automatic update systems, but others require manual intervention by the user. soruce

Firefox 3.6.8 Is Out Now
Firefox made a new release for Firefox 3.6. Its latest official stable build to 3.6.8. The new edition of the highly popular web browser comes only with one stability fix to a problem that occurred on some pages containing plugins. Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory titled the issue the “dangling pointer crash regression from plugin parameter array” and labeled it as having critical impact. Mozilla developer Daniel Holbert, who reported the problem was discovered on July 20 that the fix to the plugin parameter array crash that had been introduced in the earlier Firefox build (3.6.7) unleashed a crash that showed signs of memory corruption. As an effect of this, the plugin instance’s parameter array could be freed too soon in some cases, leaving a dangling pointer that could be called by the plugin.
This translates into the risk of executing attacker-controlled memory. The previous bag of stability and security fixes had been dropped in the web browser less than a week ago when version 3.6.7 of Firefox has been released, fixing plenty of critical vulnerabilities. These could have been exploited to launch remote code execution attacks.
An attacker successfully exploiting them could have gained control over the computer and, depending on the privileges of the logged user, install programs, view or change data. With version 3.6 continuing to improve both security and stability, Mozilla is also looking in perspective and adds new features in the upcoming Firefox 4.
