Indian web browser Epic just released its latest version, Epic 1.2. Epic is the first-ever web browser for India and its the world's only antivirus browser. Hidden Reflex, an Indian startup running since 2008, developed and launched India's first web browser entitled 'Epic'. Its creators claim that it can scan your computer for viruses, track your stock portfolio, type in 12 Indian languages, book travel tickets, spot phishing attacks at the same time, without having to visit multiple websites or switch between applications, all for free.
Google has announced a new stable version of the popular Google Chrome web browser for Linux, Mac and Windows platforms. Google Chrome 7.0.517.41 features hundred of fixes from the last stable release 6.0.472.63. Google Chrome 7.0.517.41 is also the first stable version of the 7.x series. Other features that have been brought in the new version are an updated HTML5 parser, and the File API, which in theory should offer support for editing local files directly in the browser, with the aid of HTML 5 (e.g. images, txt). Google has released Chrome to Phone for Android. Its a great tool for instantly transfer your browser data or sites which you’re reading on the desktop to your Android phone. This currently support only Android 2.2. The latest update of Firefox 4 Beta is now available for download and testing in more than 30 languages, adding 10 new languages. Firefox 4 beta 3 doesn’t come with much in terms of visual changes, but has some big new features.Firefox 4 Beta 3 support for multi-touch in Windows 7 and faster JavaScript rendering. Mozilla says that the 500,000 or so Firefox 4 Beta users send about 3,500 feedback reports each day using the add-on.
Mike Beltzner, Mozilla’s Director of Firefox, writes on mozilla blog , “The latest update of Firefox 4 Beta is now available for download and testing in more than 30 languages, adding 10 new languages. This update includes multi-touch support for Windows 7 and new JavaScript values to experience faster and smoother graphics. We also have vital feedback from our testers that we will incorporate into future updates”.
Multi-touch support is only available under Windows 7 so far, but it enables users to interact with websites in a more natural way, providing they’re using a touch-enabled device. Touch interfaces are becoming increasingly popular, so far mostly on mobile devices, but recently on larger devices such as tablets, as well.
With a number of Windows 7-based tablets coming, users should appreciate a browser that natively supports multi-touch. The problem with this is that most websites aren’t optimized for multi-touch so even if you have a touch display and Firefox 4, most of the content on the web won't be able to leverage the capabilities.
Hopefully, now that Firefox supports the feature and is providing the necessary tools for web developers to use the capabilities of the device, more websites will implement touch-friendly interfaces.
Changes to the C++ representation of JavaScript enable Firefox to execute heavy, numeric code more efficiently. This sort of code is used to produce smooth, streamlined graphics in modern Web applications. Basically, the change should speed up websites which leverage HTML5 features like Canvas for graphics, but also other computation-heavy JavaScript sites.
The new JavaScript value representation is the result of work done on the JaegerMonkey experimental engine. The project is used to try different approaches in speeding up JavaScript and is separate from the engine used in Firefox 4. The developers borrowed some ideas from WebKit and the LuaJIT and expanded on them, especially for the 64-bit version.

Firefox made a new release for Firefox 3.6. Its latest official stable build to 3.6.8. The new edition of the highly popular web browser comes only with one stability fix to a problem that occurred on some pages containing plugins. Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory titled the issue the “dangling pointer crash regression from plugin parameter array” and labeled it as having critical impact.
Mozilla developer Daniel Holbert, who reported the problem was discovered on July 20 that the fix to the plugin parameter array crash that had been introduced in the earlier Firefox build (3.6.7) unleashed a crash that showed signs of memory corruption. As an effect of this, the plugin instance’s parameter array could be freed too soon in some cases, leaving a dangling pointer that could be called by the plugin.
This translates into the risk of executing attacker-controlled memory. The previous bag of stability and security fixes had been dropped in the web browser less than a week ago when version 3.6.7 of Firefox has been released, fixing plenty of critical vulnerabilities. These could have been exploited to launch remote code execution attacks.
An attacker successfully exploiting them could have gained control over the computer and, depending on the privileges of the logged user, install programs, view or change data. With version 3.6 continuing to improve both security and stability, Mozilla is also looking in perspective and adds new features in the upcoming Firefox 4.
